We are looking for a Court of protection Paralegal salary is up to £40K DOE hybrid working 3 days remote and 2 days from office.
Responsibilities:
- Drafting and preparing applications to the Court of Protection for the appointment of professional and lay deputies and other ancillary applications.
- Monitor cash flow through bank accounts and statements – Check credits and debits, identify anomalies and highlight items for further investigation.
- Gather, record and file all paperwork received and processed in connection with any payments made or received.
- Complete annual accounts for submission to the Public Guardian
- Systematic quarterly and annual billing of files
- Raise and resolve queries
- Attend client and other professional’s meetings as required
- Check balances for direct debits and standing orders
- Liaise with banks, stockbrokers, financial advisers, accountants/tax department, barristers and other parties.
- Liaise with clients, case managers, carers, and families
- Answer queries, respond to day to day requests
- Prepare paperwork for authorisation
- Pay bills received and account for them
- Gather information and draft cases for consideration in response to special requests
- Process actions following a decision
- Assist with marketing events, presentations etc
- Carry out any other administrative duties required by fee earners involved in Court of Protection matters and any other duties appropriate to the running of the department
- Any other reasonable duties assigned from time to time.
Skills Required
- Specialist legal expertise in Court of Protection work commensurate with qualifications and experience.
- Knowledge of the processes and procedures associated with Court of Protection work, including the Mental Capacity Act, Code of Practice, Court of Protection Rules and Practice Directions.
- Client contact skills.
- Dealing with difficult clients where their capacity may be in issue and dealing with families in emotionally demanding situations.
- Excellent numeracy skills, word-processing and excel.
- Ability to assimilate and analyse large amounts of information, paying great attention to detail.
- A well-organised, careful, conscientious approach
- This role will predominantly be focussed on assisting with financial and accounting management so previous experience in this is essential.
